Year 7 News - 3rd June 2016

I think it would be fair to say, the past fortnight has been dominated by the end-of-year assessments taking place. Whist many of the assessments have been completed in the classroom, Year 7 have also had their first taster of what it is like to sit an exam in an examination hall. I am very proud to report back as Year 7 Leader that invigilators have been exceptionally impressed by the mature approach and conduct of our Year 7 students. This process has been very beneficial from talking to students as many have reported they now do not feel as anxious about doing exams in the hall. With a few more years of practice, I am confident that our current Year 7 will take their IGCSEs in their stride!

  • Summer Fun Day

Tomorrow sees NAIS Pudong host our annual summer event. The day runs from 11am-3pm and promises to be a fun-packed day with entertainment, games, competitions, food and drink. Year 7 students have been busy helping to prepare many games that will be at the event. A massive thank you to all our amazing students that have volunteered to help on the day! We hope to see you all tomorrow and hope you enjoy the day.

The final week of term sees students enrich their learning experiences beyond the classroom and finish the year with 4 days of events and trips outside of the classroom environment.

More details about these events will come out in a separate document  including times, locations and things that the students may need.

And now time to find out what has been happening inside the classroom…

A View from the Classroom

Over the last fortnight, Year 7 Geographers have been investigating the physical and human causes of flooding in Bangladesh and the UK. Students have been comparing the impacts and responses of flooding in both places and have looked at the various ways that people can manage or mitigating the effects of floods.

As well as revision, Year 7 have been focusing on China. They have been learning historical facts concerning the Great Wall, the Terracotta Army and the Dynasties of Ancient China.

Year 7 are now in the process of creating their character based on the story of Alice in Wonderland. They have been using their knowledge of composition, variety of illustrative styles and colour theory to produce some really visually interesting paintings.

Student of the Fortnight

This fortnight a massive well done goes to Minato Kuba. Teachers have nominated Minato for his mature approach to learning. He puts his all into his studies as well as completed many hours of extra academics at home. Well done Minato!
