Year 9 News - 3rd June 2016

Summer Fun Day

Fingers crossed that the rain can hold off and the sun can peep through the clouds for the annual Summer Fun Day which will be on Saturday 4 June. A fantastic fun day for all the family with something for everyone. This year our students from Year 7,8 and 9 will take on a leadership role at the event. They have been busy organising the games and puzzles and will be the leaders for these stalls on the day. A lot of thought and organisation has gone into this and I am sure that our students will do us proud on Saturday. Students who are volunteering on Saturday must return the reply slip to their tutor by this Friday.

Just a reminder to all parents that this year’s event is free to all NAIS families but you must be wearing your ID badge in order to gain entry.

Netball & Rugby Finals

This year sees lots of Year 9 students involved in either netball or rugby finals. It is always pleasing to see so many students form the year group involved in co-curricular activities. The boys will be playing at Dulwich, Jinqiao and the girls here at NAIS Pudong. I wish them all the best of luck on Saturday at your respective sports. Go get 'em tigers.

Global Campus Photographer of the Year

Back by popular demand! We are delighted to announce the return of the photography calendar competition - 2016 'Global Campus Photographer of the Year' competition. Over the coming weeks, we will share information about the competition - the who, what, why, when and how.

In the meantime, please encourage students to head to the online area (which can be accessed from the Competition page) to vote on the theme. If you have any additional suggestions for a theme, please do let us know! (

Learning Beyond the Classroom

The final week of term sees students continue their learning experiences but this time beyond the classroom and finish the year with a variety of events and trips outside of the classroom environment. Information about Year 9 and all other year groups will be sent out shortly in a letter. It promises to be an exciting week with opportunities for all to enjoy school in a different light.

Assessment Cycle

Year 9 students have just completed their summer term assessment cycle and I am pleased to report that they conducted themselves with maturity throughout. The students have worked hard on their revision in guidance and leading up to the exams and I am looking forward to seeing their results. The students carried out some of the main exams in the Sport Hall and under strict exam conditions in order to help prepare them for the IGCSE exams which will be starting next year.

Student Reporters this week come from 9A

History by Julien Francois

In History, just before the assessments, we did presentations about WW2 and different students did different subjects. We decided to watch ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’ because we are currently learning about WW2 and the death camps and the story is mainly about this.

Art by Laurenz Weiner

Recently in Art we have been doing spray painting. We had to glue tissue paper on ripped cardboard to create texture and make the wall seem more realistic. Then we made stencils of iconic characters which we picked. We then cut out 3 different layers on each one and made each layer a different color to create effect.

French by Alistair Wong

Recently in French, we have been learning how to describe books that we have read. This has been extremely useful for our current tests. In class we learnt how to say what books we like and what genre they are. Learning this was extremely interesting and useful for our end-of-year assessment.
