In English next week we will be looking at a non-fiction text based on the human body. We will be exploring the features of non-fiction text and begin to be able to identify the structures required to make a non-fiction excellent. The children will be using dictionary skills to explore the technical vocabulary involved with non-fiction writing and further develop their skills of paraphrasing large sections of information into smaller segments. From here the children will begin to draft their own non-fiction text based on the human body.

Throughout Maths next week we are going to be looking at place value of numbers. To begin with we are going to develop our understanding of multiples of 1000 and being able to recognise and recall 1000 more or less than any given number. From here we will be looking at the place value of a range of digits in numbers bigger than 1000. Finally next week we will be ordering and comparing numbers greater than 1000. You can help us at home by counting in numbers larger than 1000 and discussing which numbers are greater or smaller.  From Wednesday Year 4 will be setting for their maths lessons.

Next week will be the first week of our new topic ‘How humans work’. As scientists we will explore the skeleton and the major organs that are in our bodies. We will be beginning our focus on the eye. We are going to look at the links between the brain and the eye, while examining the purpose and main functions that the eye has. From here we will be creating our own eye tests and ways in which to record the functions of the eye.
