Year 1 Week Ahead Information

An overview of the week ahead in Year 1

  • Year 1 get a visit from the circus

Information and Reminders

Thank you to all parents who attended the Year 1 IPC ‘Circus’ entry point this week. I am sure you will agree it was a brilliant performance, which the children seemed to enjoy.

Mrs. Finan will go on maternity leave from Wednesday 14th September. Mrs. Schopp will be the teacher for Year 1A and Mr. Shackleton will cover her role as the Year Group Leader until she returns.

School will be closed on Thursday 15th & Friday 16th September due to the Mid-Autumn festival and will resume on Monday 19th September.

Please check your child’s Learning Journal to check that they are wearing the correct school uniform. We are seeing a number of items of clothing being work that are not part of our school uniform

In the run up to International Week, we are looking for parents and family members to get involved and come in and share something of their home countries and traditions. If you would like to come in and read with your child’s class, cook with them, teach them a song or dance, or just give a talk about where you are from, please get in touch with Mr. Shackleton

Upcoming dates

School Holiday (Mid-Autumn Festival) – Thursday 15th & Friday 16th September

International Week – Week beg. 26th September

National Holiday (school closed) – Monday 3rd to Friday 7th October

Next week in English, the children will revisit the letter received from the Circus ringleader. They will discuss the following questions: What makes a good circus entertainer? What do we need for a great circus? The children will create their own circus character and describe their different attributes.

This week there will be big focus on forming and orientating letters correctly, if you want to support your children with their handwriting please use the link below:

The focus in Maths this week, will be Geometry. The children will recognise, identify and name common 2D and 3D shapes. Attention will be given to recognising the shapes in different orientations and sizes. They will follow the circus theme by identifying 2D/3D objects, costumes and performances related to the circus.

During the mental starter, the children will continue to derive and recall number facts to 20.

The focus for this week will be ‘Communication.’

The children will share their knowledge harvest homework with the rest of the class, explaining what interesting facts they have found about the circus. This will lead into the children exploring the history of the circus, looking at how the performances have changed over time and also how the costumes and locations have been adapted or changed.
