Our Ongoing Commitment to Professional Development

30 九月 2016

by Bevan Graham, Head of IB Academy

The International Baccalaureate Educator Network (IBEN) is an association of IB educators from all over the world. Members of the IBEN support the professional development work of the IBO in a number of different roles. Educators can become workshop leaders, examiners, curriculum developers and visiting team members. At NAIS Pudong many of our teachers are examiners in various subject areas.

Workshop leaders are responsible for training teachers in the various components of the IB Continuum. These workshops are officially accredited and quality assured by the IBO. Recently I was up-skilled by the IB in the brand new EE guide which has allowed me to to conduct Subject Specific Seminars and EE training workshops in schools and at regional workshop events.

Last weekend I ran a workshop for IBEN in my capacity as a workshop leader for the Extended Essay at a school in Beijing.  I collaborated with a second workshop leader to deliver a professional development experience to nearly fifty teachers. The title of the workshop was The Role of the Supervisor in the Extended Essay Category 3. It was hard work but certainly an inspiring experience to support educators with their IB Journey. In addition to the EE I am a workshop leader for TOK, Approaches to Teaching and Learning, Music and CAS.

I have recently included the role as visiting team member to my list of IBEN roles. When deployed I  support the work of the IB by being a member of a team that accredits new schools and evaluates established programmes.
