Greetings from the Embley Family

10 二月 2017

Dear all

I’d like to take a few moments to introduce my family, chiefly because some of you might see us around the campus here at Pudong..

My name is Michael Embley and I am the new Regional Managing Director, China, for Nord Anglia Education. Far more importantly though I am husband to Sally, and father to Ally, Izzy, Elly, Bob and Fifi.

  • embley family

I have been with NAE for many years as both Principal and RMD. We have just moved together from Dubai (where I was RMD for the Middle East region) back to China, a country we love. My two eldest children are back in the UK studying nursing and medicine respectively. My three youngest are here. We chose this school because it had the just what we, as a family were looking for. A mix of academic rigor and a nice “feeling” to the place.

I realize it is odd perhaps to talk about the “feeling” of a place while sitting as RMD and an Ex-Principal. But I don’t subscribe to the idea that a school is merely all about the numbers. The numbers are deeply important of course, but they are merely half of the school.

So that’s why we’re here, but not what we’re about.

My children are here to learn and grow and enjoy being young people. To be children in fact. The same as your children. This is the most important reason.

Other than that; I am here to ensure that our schools offer the very best to all of our children. Be that matching the “numbers” we and our children will need to ensure they have the best opportunities to move forward in later life, or by ensuring that we don’t only look at the numbers. By ensuring, through working with our Principals around China, to make sure that our schools are welcoming, nurturing, challenging, supportive, demanding, ambitious places. To make sure, as much as I can, that they “Feel” right.

I look forward, I hope, to meeting many of you over the coming years.

Best regards

Mike Embley
