Year 4 Week Ahead Information

An overview of the week ahead in Year 4

  • Year 4 creating airport maps

Information and Reminders

  • Reading books will be changed on a Monday and a Thursday. We have sent activities home with the children for you to try with them and their reading books. We are wanting Year 4 children to read at home at least 3 times a week. If you read with your child at home please mark inside their learning journals for their class teachers to see.
  • Homework is sent on Wednesdays and must be returned on Mondays to be marked. Please make sure you encourage your child to complete it on their own and inform us if they found the activity challenging so we can further support them in school. They can sign up for homework club on Thursdays and Fridays which is first come, first served.
  • Don’t forget to check Class Dojo to see how many House Points your child has been collecting and to see posts of what is happening in your child’s class.
  • As the weather turns colder please can you ensure that your children are wearing winter uniform and are bringing a coat to school with them.
  • You should now have received an email inviting you take part in our annual Parent Satisfaction Survey. We would really appreciate you taking the time to complete the survey by following this link:  Thank you.

Next week is our last week looking at “Atlas of Adventures- A collection of natural wonders, exciting experiences and fun festivals from the four corners of the globe” by Lucy Letherland.  We will finish our work on this book by looking at the use of persuasive language and the impact it has on the reader. We will focus on being able to use simple organisational devices to construct a persuasive leaflet for a country of our choice. In this leaflet we will specifically look at a range of linguistic devices. During our lessons we will develop our skills of using a dictionary to check spellings and proofreading for spelling and grammar mistakes. At the end of the week we will look at being able to improve our writing through the use of pronouns and nouns for clarity and the use of fronted adverbials.

Guided Reading: During our Guided reading sessions next week we will be focussing on being able to understand what we have read, in books that we can read independently, by predicting what might happen from details stated and implied.

Spelling:  In our spelling sessions next week we will be looking at being able to spell words ending in –tion.

In our maths lessons next week we will be continuing our work on exploring fractions, decimals and percentages. During the week we will look at being able to divide numbers by 10 and 100. We will explore the concept and role of the decimal point and be able to divide by a 1 and 2 digit number by both 10 and 100. From here we will be able to recall the decimal equivalents for fractions including ¼, ½ and ¾.

In our topic Gateways To The World next week we will become artist and technologists. At the start of the week we will be artists. We are going to look at how art work is presented in airports and how different designers make airports an appealing place to be. From here we will be creating our own artwork to be displayed inside an airport. At the end of the week we are going to become technologists. During these sessions we are going to develop our computing skills to design our own boarding passes. We will be looking at a range of boarding passes and discussing what we like and dislike about them. This will helps us to make informed decisions when designing our own.
