An overview of the first week back after the holidays

  • Year 2 Exit Point for People of the Past

Information and Reminders

Thank you to everyone who attended our Year 2 Exit Point, the children really enjoyed you coming to see the work that they had produced this term. We hope you learnt some interesting facts about People from the Past.

After the holidays we will change to our summer uniform. Please visit the school website or check in your child’s Learning Journal for the appropriate clothing, which can be purchased at our uniform shop.

We have a number of parent workshops scheduled for the summer term. You can find out more about these in your child’s Term 2 Report, which will come home today.

After the holiday our topic will be Buildings, linked to that theme we will start by reading The Three Little Pigs. Our Learning Objectives covered will include: 

Reading Key Objectives:

Develop pleasure in reading, motivation to read, vocabulary and understanding by: discussing the sequence of events and how items of information are related.

Understand books they listen to by: making inferences on the basis of what is being said and done.

Understand books they listen to by: predicting what might happen on the basis of what has been read so far.

To become increasing familiar with and retell a wider range of stories, fairy stories and traditional tales.

Writing Key Objectives:

Use commas to separate items in a list.

Learn how to use use: expanded noun phrases to describe and specify.

Use of capital letters, full stops, question marks and exclamation marks.

Develop positive attitudes towards and stamina for writing by: writing for different purposes

Make simple additions, revisions and corrections to their own writing by evaluating their writing with the teacher and other pupils.



After the holiday, in maths we will revisit our work on Multiplication. Our Learning Objectives covered will include:

  • Recall and use multiplication facts for the 2 times table
  • Recall and use multiplication facts for the 5 times table
  • Recall and use multiplication facts for the 10 times table, linking multiplying by 10 to place value
  • Counting in steps of 3
  • Understand that multiplication is commutative

There are structures around us all the time, some of which we barely notice. What are they made from? What is their purpose? What do you notice about their shapes? What can be done to make them stronger? Throughout this unit the children will become builders and discover the secrets to holding up bridges and skyscrapers. We will start the topic by finding out what the children already know. We will discuss the term a stable structure. What does this mean?
