Reception Week Ahead Information

An overview of the week ahead in Reception

  • Reception enjoy their week of learning

Information and Reminders

We have now changed to our summer uniform. Please refer to our website or your child’s Learning Journal to check the appropriate clothing. You can visit our uniform shop to buy any items you may need.

Now the warmer weather has arrived, please can you ensure your child comes to school with a sun hat. Please ensure that sun lotion and mosquito repellent is applied at home as we are unable to do this at school.

Just a reminder that we are still using our ‘WOW’ board outside of the Reception classes. This is a great opportunity to celebrate the children’s achievement out of school and we welcome all contributions.

Overview of Learning

This week we have been retelling the story of ‘The Enormous Turnip’ and the children have been creating their own story maps, thinking carefully about the characters in the story and the sequence of the story. Next week, we will begin the ‘innovation phase’ where the children will change elements of the story and begin to write their ideas down. For example, a child may change characters in the story or the setting. We will also have the opportunity to plant our very own sunflower seed and we will keep a diary to track its progress until the end of the summer term. For our Maths learning, we will be exploring the concept of time in various forms.  The children will take part in timed challenges and explore daily routines. We will begin to explore clocks and how we use them in our everyday lives.
