Overview of next week’s learning

The children will continue to develop their understanding of stories and their structures through creating their own stories. In small groups the children will work together to make up a story using three pictures to show the beginning, middle and end of their story. They will then be asked to retell the story using familiar story language such as ‘Once upon a time…’ and describe the principle characters and events. The children will also be encouraged to make a book for their story, either as a whole group or individually.

In phonics the children will play games that will help extend their understanding of initial letter sounds in words and games that practice oral segmenting and blending of simple words. They will also begin to practice letter formation of the sounds that they have learnt already – s, a, t, i, p, n.

As the children are becoming more familiar with 2D shapes, the children will explore shapes and make representations of familiar objects such as, boats, flowers and faces using magnetic boards and shapes.
