Year 6 Week Ahead Information

An overview of the week ahead in Year 6

  • Year 6 play the blues

Information and Reminders

We’re approaching the FOBISIA Games which begin with an opening ceremony on Wednesday. This is a huge event for the school, for which there will be hundreds of extra people on site as we welcome representatives, student athletes, staff and parents from five schools around Asia. We aim to minimise disruptions to normal studies, but with around twenty year 6 students involved in sports all day Thursday and Friday, we will arrange some alternative activities to supplement the regular curriculum.

Thursday is STEAM day, the theme for which is recycling. Those not participating in FOBISIA are requested to bring an old t-shirt which they will recycle into a ‘bag for life’. We will also conduct a ‘junkyard challenge’ in which students will create a model car and artwork using recyclable materials. Please help your child to bring in as much clean, safe textiles and materials as possible.

Stars of the Week

6A – Sebastiano Castelletti – for intense and focused cross-examination of witnesses in the Year 6 courtroom trials

6B – Teo Lechaczynski – for very engaging and persuasive speeches in the Year 6 courtroom trials

6C – Kokil Sehgal – for powerful speeches in the Year 6 courtroom trials

In English, we will keep be practising exam-style questions in reading comprehension. We will also practise independent extended writing, as one of the final writing assessments this year. Students will practice their ability to engage and persuade an audience through speech and delivery. Our SPAG topic is possessive apostrophes.

In maths, we will review the topic of multiplying fractions. We will multiply simple pairs of proper fractions, writing the answer in its simplest form [for example, 1/4 × 1/2 = 1/8]. One common error to avoid is that some pupils may make multiplying fractions over complicated by applying the same process for adding and subtracting of finding common denominators.

We will finish our unit ‘What a Wonderful World’ with some art work about landscapes. Students will learn how to choose materials to express their ideas and understand techniques which best suit their purpose. Our final Topic is ‘Champions for Change’, about governments and rulers, which will begin after FOBISIA.
