Year 6 Week Ahead Information

An overview of the week ahead in Year 6

  • Being artists in Year 6

Information and Reminders

Well done to all Year 6 lawyers, witnesses, jurors and clerks who performed so well in the finale of our mock courtroom trials unit. Firms of attorneys from each class were pitted against each other to determine justice in two cases. By coincidence, the same side in each case was victorious, meaning two groups each from 6A, 6B and 6C won the case for their client. There were so many examples of great speaking, writing and argument. Jurors listened carefully and voted fairly. Lawyers interrogated and probed the witnesses, who had to stand their ground. Well done again to all participants. If your child enjoyed this unit, please let us know; it could become a future CCA.

FOBISIA is now in full swing; we wish all participants the very best in their events. We have been so impressed by the dedication and effort applied by all those involved; they have earned the chance to represent the school and we trust they will do so in the right spirit of sporting competition against our guests from schools around Asia.

In school, this will be the last full week before SATs; the following week is only three days long. We will begin to review and revise KS2 content with more frequency to embed the necessary knowledge to enable the students to achieve their best.

Stars of the Week

6A – Daniel Hjelle: For helping another student overcome a target in maths.

6C - Nirupama Rajesh: For persevering with her maths and always wanting to do better.

In English, we will conduct some creative writing to serve as our final assessment of the year. We will write about a natural disaster and review our composition to find ways to improve them. We will prepare for SATs with more regular reading practice, supplemented by exam-style questions. In SPAG we will review content based on the students’ preferences.

In maths, we will review formulae by looking at number machines and working through a series of operations. Students will practise converting these machines into algebraic formulae and solving number sentences which involve a range of operations. One point for students to remember is that pairs of operations reverse each other – subtraction reverses addition, while division reverses multiplication.

We will continue with some artwork to explore the theme of our ‘Wonderful World’ unit by creating landscape and seascape representations, using a variety of materials and techniques. Students will use paint, charcoal and pencil to portray the natural world.
