From the Director of Music

This week has been a busy week in the Performing Arts. On Tuesday we had a fabulous visit from Colby Chambers, one of our Juilliard alumni. Colby worked with Year 4, Year 6 and Year 7. It was quickly evident that Colby is certainly no stranger to working with students of different ages. He was engaging and held their complete attention, with the students focused on every word or acting direction they were given. In the Year 7 class, they performed improvisation whilst the Year 4 and Year 6 groups worked on their upcoming production.

Also on Tuesday, we saw our annual Stage and Screen concert. This year we had a record number of students involved at 192, which made for a packed hall to witness some of the best performances we have seen so far. Special mention goes to Rainbow Review and the duet performance of Hannah Tan and Michela Jang. The evening started with the Orchestra, which is now approaching 50 members, playing with small video clips on the main projector. After that, we viewed one of the IB Films and then we moved on to the choir performances. The Community Choir (which is open to anyone to join regardless of ability and previous experience) also performed very well and is approaching 30 members. This shows that our collaboration with Juilliard is not only impacting the students but inspiring the adults as well! The whole evening finished with a joint performance of How Far I’ll Go from the film Moana (complete with six soloists), and was a truly fitting conclusion to the evening performances.
