An overview of the week ahead in Year 2

  • Telling the time and building friendships in Year 2

Information and Reminders

Please could you send your child to school on Monday with a spare t-shirt and any fun water play equipment that you feel is suitable for the afternoon.

Please note that IGCSE exams are taking place and will be taken in the Primary building. The main staircase in B Block will remain closed and all students and adults should use alternative staircases. Please can we ask parents not to wait in the area outside the Hive, outside Sports Hall B or along the Year 3 classrooms, as we need to ensure silence for our older students. Parents are always welcome to go to Aspretto, our coffee shop, whilst waiting for students. Thank you for your support.

  • Continue to learn some poems learnt by heart, performing these with appropriate intonation to make the meaning clear.

Writing Key Objectives:

  • Choose adjectives and verbs for effect, using word banks to support their work.
  • Consider what they are going to write before beginning by writing down ideas and/or key words, including new vocabulary.
  • Use of capital letters, full stops, question marks and exclamation marks.
  • Write poems.
  • Make simple additions, revisions and corrections to their own writing by evaluating their writing with the teacher and other pupils.

Next week in maths our focus will be Charts and Diagrams. Our Learning Objectives will include:

  • To ask and answer questions about totalling and comparing categorical data.
  • To interpret data from simple tally charts, block diagrams, simple tables and pictograms.
  • To ask and answer questions by counting the number of objects in each category and sorting the categories by quantity.
  • Interpret and construct a pictogram where the symbol represents a single item.
  • Interpret and construct a pictogram where the symbol represents a multiple of 2 items.
  • Interpret and construct a pictogram where the symbol represents a multiple of 5 items.

As part of our Waterworld topic we will have a variety of fun water challenges for the children to participate in.

How many cups of water will it take to fill the bucket?

Using different equipment, how much water can you transfer over a set distance?

Estimate how much water is in a range of containers.

Which items will float? Which items will sink?

The Paper Boat race.

We will finish our water challenges with a fun water relay.

As scientists we will continue to find out how water helps plants to grow. We will investigate why water is important to plants and conduct experiments to help explain this.
