Year 4 Week Ahead Information

An overview of the week ahead in Year 4

  • Year 4 make canopic jars

Information and Reminders

  • Reading books will be changed on a Monday and a Thursday. We have sent activities home with the children for you to try with them and their reading books. We are wanting Year 4 children to read at home at least 3 times a week. If you read with your child at home please mark inside their learning journals for their class teachers to see.
  • Homework is sent on Wednesdays and must be returned on Mondays to be marked. Please make sure you encourage your child to complete it on their own and inform us if they found the activity challenging so we can further support them in school. They can sign up for homework club on Thursdays and Fridays which is first come, first served.
  • Don’t forget to check Class Dojo to see how many House Points your child has been collecting and to see posts of what is happening in your child’s class.
  • Please make sure your child brings a water bottle to school.
  • Please note that IGCSE exams are taking place and will be taken in the Primary building. The main staircase in B Block will remain closed and all students and adults should use alternative staircases. Please can we ask parents not to wait in the area outside the Hive, outside Sports Hall B or along the Year 3 classrooms, as we need to ensure silence for our older students. Parents are always welcome to go to Aspretto, our coffee shop, whilst waiting for students. Thank you for your support.
  • Don’t forget to make seat reservations for our performances of Porridge. You will find the link on each class’s Class Dojo page.

Throughout our English lessons this week, we will be focusing on the importance of drafting and editing our work. We will be looking at writing newspaper reports from the point of view of Howard Carter. We will begin the week by looking at the importance of the use of simple organisational devices for non-fiction writing and how this aids the reader of our writing. From here we will be looking at being able to evaluate and edit our writing. Through this, we will develop our skills of being able to propose changes to our grammar and improve our vocabulary. At the end of the week, we will look at how all of these skills can help us to plan and then draft a piece of writing.                                               

Guided Reading:

In our guided reading sessions we will be practising the skills of being able to retrieve and record information from non-fiction texts.


In our spelling lessons we will be focusing on being able to spell suffix ‘-ly’ added to words ending in ‘y’, ‘le’ and ‘ic’.



Throughout our maths learning next week we will be focusing on fractions. We will begin the week by being able to identify equivalent fractions from diagrams and being able to find families of equivalent fractions. From here we will look at how we can create a range of differing diagrams to show families of equivalent fractions. We will end the week by being able to solve problems with increasingly harder fractions to calculate quantities.



Next week in topic we become artists. We will begin the week by completing our work on canopic jars and Howard Carter. From here we will look at the importance of shabtis for the Ancient Egyptians. We will look at secondary sources and how they were created. We will use these sources to design our own shabtis. From here we will then use clay to model our own shabtis.
