Message from Secondary

18 八月 2017

It was great to see so many parents and students at our Orientation Day on Friday 18th August. There was also a highly successful start to our IB orientation programme for Year 12 students who begin their two-year journey through the Diploma Programme.

We already start the year on a positive note with some excellent external examination results. The average diploma points total for our IB graduates was a hugely impressive 35.3 points which is significantly ahead of the world average of 30 points. 21% of our diploma students achieved 40 or more points including Aimeé Burlamacchi and Ashlee Fung who each achieved 43 points.

So far, the results for the CIE IGCSE examinations (including English, Business, Economics, Computer Science and various languages) have been released with the results from the Edexcel board due to arrive on Thursday 24th August. The CIE results have also been exceptional with 62.6% of grades being A* or A and 93% of grades being from A* to C. As we did last year, we shall be inviting the students who took those exams in for a ‘Results afternoon’ on Thursday, where they will be able to celebrate what I anticipate will similarly impressive results in other subject areas.

We are all very excited about the first day of term on Monday 21st August. We begin the day with extended form time, ensuring that everyone is given all the information and material they need to have a smooth start to the school year. There will also be a ‘welcome back assembly’ for students later in the morning before regular classes commence from Period 3 onwards. We are delighted to be welcoming several new students to our school community and will ensure that they receive a warm welcome from day one.

We also welcome some new teachers to our team: Sally Marsh and Annabel Attwood join us in Science, Jennifer Marsh in Art and Wayne Morgan in Design Technology. I, myself, am also delighted to be Head of Secondary at NAIS and look forward to meeting both students and parents over the next week or so.

There will be many exciting opportunities for our students over the school year. Once again, a vibrant CCA programme (starting in the third week) will offer a range of sporting, academic and creative opportunities while we also have Project Week trips to look forward to. Much work has been done recently with our MIT and Juilliard Collaborations which will open up further exciting experiences.
