    Staff Profile: Sofina Finan

    Sofie has a BA Honours degree in English Literature and Education Studies at the University of Central Lancashire, Preston. Before moving to Shanghai, Sofie was a community sports coach providing sports activities for children in disadvantaged areas of Manchester. Subsequent to this she was a Supervisor for a Child Care company, Pathfinders for three years. This area of work was challenging but highly rewarding, and the experience gained motivated Sofie to complete her PGCE in 2009 and take a route into teaching.

    After beginning her career at a primary school in Oldham, England Sofie made the decision to work internationally in order to work with children from different countries, cultures and traditions. Sofie joined NAIS Pudong in 2010 and has remained here since. She has experience of working in Key Stage 2 but has been based primarily in Key Stage 1 since arriving at NAIS as that is where her passion lies.

    Sharon Taylor

    Sharon joined NAIS Pudong in April 2018 and brings her passion for Visual Arts and teaching to the Year 1 classroom. Sharon started her teaching career in Melbourne, Australia after graduating from RMIT University with a Bachelor of Teaching and a Graduate Diploma in Special Studies (Visual Arts).  She has a wealth of knowledge and experience, teaching across all stages of Key Stage 1 and 2 in Australia and the United Kingdom. Sharon’s teaching and learning strategies have developed as a result of working with children of varying ages and abilities from diverse socio economic groups, EAL children and children with disabilities. Her classroom practices reflect many different teaching and learning strategies that focus on creating a stimulating, challenging and non-threatening environment.

    Sharon expects that all children should participate in meaningful learning, and as such she encourages all children to feel enthusiastic and engage themselves fully in learning activities.  She creates a warm and positive classroom environment through helping her students build on their experiences, backgrounds and interests. This atmosphere ensures that all children in her class achieve success and maintain high levels of self-esteem.
