Amila studied German Linguistics, English Linguistics and Media Studies at the University of Paderborn, Germany and afterwards was awarded a Post Graduate Certificate in Education with QTS from the University of York, UK. She worked as a university tutor as well as a teacher for a number of years in both Germany and the UK. Throughout her career, Amila always understood and appreciated language's relevance for students’ development as global citizens and the many enriching opportunities they can create for children.
In her last two posts, Amela was appointed as a Head of German, German First Language Coordinator and a Head of Year 8. Two years ago she moved to Guangzhou, China with her two children, Larissa, aged 18 and Laurence, aged 15. Their experience at the British School of Guangzhou and with Nord Anglia has been truly amazing and they felt very welcomed and cared for in the best possible way. As BSG does not have an IB programme, NAIS seemed like a perfect place for Amila to further develop as an IB practitioner and for her son’s post-16 education.
