Mason Jackon

Mason Jackson

Music Teacher

Mason is thrilled to join and to make a contribution to the Nord Anglia International School Shanghai, Pudong family. He is looking forward to sharing his passion for music making and the performing arts with the fantastic students at NAIS Pudong.   Mason is a professional classroom and ensemble music educator and started his teaching career at Western Sierra Collegiate Academy in California, USA. As a music educator, he has also been involved in outreach programmes.  Through student performances, projects, musical growth, and meaningful musical experiences every day, Mason witnessed the joy and fulfilment as music builds community and nurtures one’s soul. He moved to Shanghai to take up a post at St. Paul American School, as he was eager to teach in the international arena. Sharing music with students of many different ages, backgrounds, and musical experience has been an incredible privilege and journey for him.

Mason’s music education took place at the University of Colorado Boulder where he was awarded a Bachelor of Music Degree in performance with a trombone and jazz emphasis, as well as a Bachelor of Music Education with the highest honours.   Collaboration is an integral part of music and education, and knowing that he will be working with a team of Performing Arts teachers, The Juilliard School, and the wider Nord Anglia community is an exciting prospect.  He looks forward to sharing a rich and rewarding arts education together.

Music is certainly a major focus of Mason's life. In addition to sharing music with young people, he enjoys practising and performing in his own time. However, he does have other interests as well. Virginia, Colorado, California, and other places in America have taught him to love nature and the mountains, and since moving to Shanghai, he has come to love travelling and living in a major city.  He enjoys hiking, visiting national parks, snowboarding, and playing with his family pets Lola, Charlie, and Max.  On weekends, he likes to go hear jazz, see the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Chinese opera, explore the city, or take the high-speed train on holiday to some of China’s beautiful landmarks.
