Community Projects 2016
Working in teams with students from other Nord Anglia schools worldwide, in challenging physical conditions which included blistering heat and pouring rain, students completed much needed improvement works to assist families with day-to-day living, to become more financially independent and to provide access to electricity for basic needs such as evening lighting to ensure children are able to do their homework.
"I worked together with my partner from BIS Abu Dhabi to make a stove, covered in ‘cement’, which was a combination of sand, cow dung and ash. This was so that the lady we were helping, Helen, could have somewhere to cook her food. We got the ‘cement’ all over us, as we had to manually mix it and cover the foundation of the stove, constructed from eight mud bricks. The next day, when we arrived back on site at Helen’s, we discovered that something was already burning in the stove. We looked over at Helen and she was so excited for it – her face lit up and she smiled so brightly." Alice, Year 12
