The Adventures of Horton the Elephant

Seussical was originally created by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty with the aim of bringing everyone’s favourite Dr. Seuss characters to the stages of Broadway, the West End and other theatres around the world.

Told from the perspective of The Cat in the Hat and the Who child, Jojo, the musical follows the adventures of Horton the Elephant. These adventures begin when Horton discovers a special speck of dust; a speck of dust that is home to an entire population of tiny people. These invisible people are known as the Whos, and they need Horton’s help and protection. Not only must the lovable elephant look out for the Whos, however, but he must also look after an abandoned egg left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. While trying to keep his new friends safe, Horton faces many challenges. However, Horton’s own special friend, Gertrude McFuzz, never loses faith in him. Can they work together to overcome Horton’s challenges and emerge triumphant?

As many of the cast and staff will tell you, BISS Puxi has a reputation for putting on fantastic productions. While the production teams may vary, and the students may change, the quality of Performing Arts remains consistently excellent. This has been especially true over the past few years due to the collaboration between our school and Juilliard. The joining of forces has provided increasing opportunities for students to get involved in the Performing Arts: during the school day in subject Drama and Music, as well as in extracurricular classes provided by the BISS Lions School of Dance. While the collaboration with Juilliard is fantastic, the quality of Performing Arts is also due to the experienced specialist teachers which BISS Puxi is lucky to have. Their passion and ambition are evident in their lessons, which in turn excites the students and drives them to success. It is this collective excitement and commitment which always leads to fantastic productions, and this show is no different. A special mention should also be made of the resilience which this year’s cast have demonstrated. In a year full of challenges and setbacks, they have remained enthusiastic and optimistic; feelings we hope that you, the audience, will also experience. With that, it is now time to sit back, relax and enjoy the ride. The dazzling dialogue, stunning sets, and colourful costumes found in Seussical makes this another ambitious musical, and one which we cannot wait to share with you. The Production Team
