Medical Care

It is the aim of the medical centre staff to provide a friendly, efficient and professional service to all pupils and staff who need the services of the centre.

Parents and guardians are welcome to contact the medical centre at any time concerning the health and welfare of a student. The medical and nursing staff will liaise closely with parents in the event of their son or daughter's health causing concern.

Parents are welcome at any consultation with the medical officers. Parents are requested to let the medical centre know, either directly or via the school secretaries, if there are going to be life-changing events taking place, so that the student can be given extra support during this time.

Below is our school policy regarding keeping your child at home in case of illness:

  • Diarrhoea (2 or more episodes in 24h that is new or unusual): Stay home for 48 hours since the last episode.
  • Vomiting (more than 2 times and/or occurring with fever): Stay home for 48 hours since the last episode of vomiting
  • Vomiting (1 isolated occurrence without fever): Stay home for 24 hours since vomiting
  • Fever (temperature equal to or more than 37.6 degrees celsius): Stay home 24 hours after the pupil is found fever free without intake of fever lowering medication

If your child is ill, please let your child’s teacher know and also whether the illness is contagious or not.

Medication Policy

If you need us to give any medication to your child during school hours, please bring it to the clinic with the ingredients clearly labelled in English and ask the doctor to write on the prescription the name of the medication (including the ingredients), the dosage to be given and the number of times your child has to take the prescription each day, the duration of the treatment as well as the contact details of the doctor. This is in case your child’s condition requires further explanation or if the nursing team have questions regarding the right way to give the medication they can then contact the doctor directly.

Medication should be in its original packaging. Some hospitals or pharmacies will label the medication box with the prescription information. This is also acceptable as long as the label contains all the requested information.

We are not able to give any medication, even over the counter medicines, to children on an ad hoc basis. This includes fever and pain relief medication, cough and cold medication. The school nurses are not allowed to give these without medical supervision.
