  • Richard Thompson

    Richard Thompson

    Assistant Head of Primary

    Richard Thompson

Having completed both his BA and MA in Theology and Religious Studies at The University of Leeds, York St. John, Richard worked for The Royal Household, and The College of St. George, Windsor Castle, for seven years.  Following on from this exciting chapter, he chose to pursue his long-held ambition to teach, and completed his PGCE in Birmingham, in 2013, where he subsequently went on to teach in a culturally diverse inner city school.  Teaching predominantly in Years 3 and 6, he took on various leadership roles including English Lead, Upper Key Stage 2 Phase Leader, and Teach first and PGCE mentor.
Building upon these experiences, Richard joined BISS in 2017 as a Year 3 classroom teacher, where he subsequently took on the roles of Year Lead, English Lead for Primary and, latterly, his current role of Assistant Head of Primary.
Richard strives continuously to ensure that all students are happy and engaged in their daily lessons through innovative curriculum design, and that all teaching staff are supported in their delivery of new, ambitious and meaningful learning experiences.  He believes that student motivation, coupled with clear teacher modelling and focused student dialogue, is key to quality learning across phases.  Moving into his new senior leadership role, he is excited about embracing fresh challenges in order to further support and develop our dynamic and committed team of teaching professionals.

  • Francesca

    Franscesca Beers

    Deputy Head of Primary

    Franscesca Beers

Francesca has enjoyed a varied and interesting career as a teacher, school leader and teacher trainer. Having graduated with a B.ED ( Hons) from Manchester Metropolitan University she moved to Bristol where she taught for seven years in a large inner-city Primary School. During this time, she became part of the wider leadership of the school and became a Lead Practitioner of Literacy.

She then moved to Russia and India with her family and worked in two different international schools.

On returning to the UK, Francesca qualified as an Advanced Skills Teacher and began to support other teachers and school leaders across Bristol. She also became part of the ‘Talk for Writing’ (TfW) network becoming one of Pie Corbett’s accredited trainers. Within this role she led the team that enabled Knowle Park Primary to become one of the first three ‘Talk for Writing’ training centres in the UK. She then delivered training for TfW both nationally and internationally. Francesca believes that to get truly great outcomes for children, teachers need to be highly skilled practitioners and learners themselves. The work that she did with and for TfW as well as its sister project ‘The Primary Writing Project’ both supported this belief and enabled her to effectively practice it.

  • Edward Beechey

    Edward Beechey

    Deputy Headteacher (Curriculum)

    Edward Beechey

Ed graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2009 with a Masters degree in Modern History. After a year spent making his way across Russia, Mongolia, China, Nepal and India by train he embarked on a teaching career in a school in ‘challenging circumstances’ in East London. Through the Teach First programme, Ed completed a PGCE at Canterbury Christchurch University whilst teaching History and Government and Politics. His three years in London gave Ed a strong grounding in teaching EAL students, an appreciation of internationalism in education and the belief that all students - regardless of circumstance - have the ability flourish academically.

Amidst the hubbub of London, an inspirational Head of Department piqued Ed’s interest in modern Chinese History. This, coupled with a number of long summer holidays spent in the Middle Kingdom, eventually led to a move to China as the Head of History at Harrow International School in Beijing in 2012. Since then Ed has served as a Head of Department, Advanced Skills Teacher, Assistant Head Teacher and now Deputy Head Teacher. In these roles Ed has developed an interest in Assessment as Learning and Metacognition. He is currently completing the Nord Anglia Senior Leadership Programme, researching and writing a Professional Enquiry on the psychology of predicted grades in secondary education.
