As Head of Languages at an international school in Beijing, she used western language learning methodologies in her Mandarin teaching to foster enjoyment and confidence in her students. From there, she led the MFL and Classics Faculty in an outstanding school in north London, Northwood College, which excelled in developing deeper thinking in students.
Fiona has held a number of management roles at the British Embassy and in UK-based charities involved in work related to China, and has completed an MSc in Development Management with the Open University.
Fiona has particular interests in sports reading, charity work and baking. She learned Chinese Kung Fu when she was a student in Beijing and now practises Taiqi fan and would like to learn Taiqi sword. She has a strong interest in working with vulnerable groups and giving something back to the community. She is interested in research on allergies and, with a number of severe food allergies in her family, is spending time sourcing gluten- and dairy-free products and places where she and her family can eat in Shanghai!
