After studying Music in Cambridge, U.K. (Anglia Ruskin University) and in Pennsylvania, U.S.A. (Lebanon Valley College) – Stephen was offered a fully funded place on an accelerated programme to qualify as a Teacher of Music. He spent several years teaching at a very high performing school in Cambridge, in addition to working as a freelance musician and composer. He moved to Shanghai two years ago to lead and develop an Expressive Arts programme at an international school here. He is passionate about engaging young people in active music-making, and has worked on several innovative research projects in partnership with The Faculty of Education (Cambridge) exploring the impact that new technology has had on teaching music. BISS Puxi has an outstanding reputation that reaches far beyond Shanghai, and he is extremely excited to be joining such a highly successful and vibrant music department. He looks forward to working with the gifted musicians at BISS, and to developing our partnership with Juilliard which affords our students incredible opportunities unique to Nord Anglia schools.
Naturally he devotes a lot of his free time to music and is actively involved with several musical ensembles in the city. Outside of his own practice and rehearsals, he enjoys going to concerts and music festivals regularly. He spends an awful lot of time at the many restaurants of Shanghai, and whilst he is only just about able to order a meal in Mandarin he is desperately trying to improve his Chinese language skills!
