Stephen completed his B.Mus. Performance in Jazz Improvisation at the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne University, Australia. He then went on to complete a Postgraduate Diploma in Music Performance and later, a Graduate Diploma in Education at the same university.
Stephen’s first work was, surprisingly, in a research laboratory working for CSIRO. During his time at BISS, he has composed and published two volumes of children’s music using the material he has composed for his students. Stephen is an active performer and brings a love for music and music performance to the classroom.
Stephen has a passion for small group jazz and tries to find time in his busy schedule to maintain and develop his performance skills on the double bass. His two other interests are technology, particularly, as it is applied to music composition and reading. His favourite activity is spending time with his family, Yanna and their three sons. Their three young boys love all kinds of transport, so Stephen spends a lot of time on trains and buses travelling around China.
