Are you ready for the future?

Are you ready for the future? Our Year 8s have been pondering upon how Pseudocode is the first step to learning the skills of programming and creating logic which is a great method for uncovering unclear decisions and defining all inputs, outputs and interactions needed to effectively solve a problem.

As the pace of change continues to accelerate, one thing is certain- The future will look very different than what it does today. With the help of computers and the Internet, information is now far more readily accessible for a range of purposes across the globe.

“The computer was born not for entertainment or email but out of a need to solve a serious number-crunching crisis.” This information was something new to our Year 7s and there was a wide variety of discussions about the history and generation of computers during their presentations in the lesson. It was remarkable to witness these young minds thinking about how computers evolved from their humble beginnings to the machines of today and thoughts about how the future will look like with the constant advancements in the technology world.

Using the cascading style sheets, which is a fascinating mechanism for adding various styles to web documents using HTML is what our Year 9s have been discovering and inventing their own line of codes. It was incredible to see Y9C- Samuel Szcjnfeld work on 3-D printers and actually print ‘Yoda’ ( A character from star wars). 3D printing or additive manufacturing is a process of making three-dimensional solid objects from a digital file. It took him around 36 hours for this object to print. He brought this to school and all the other forms had an insight of the process of every step and level of 3D Printing and it was much enjoyed and appreciated by all.

Parallel to the increasing number of its users, the Internet, which allows worldwide circulation of information, now has a more complex structure. This is what all the secondary year forms have been addressing since last week -Cyber security and focusing on E-safety. They have been expressing their thoughts on the whiteboard in the computing lesson which is a great look forward for us!

Recent trends in hardware and software deployment are chronicled as well as their impact on various segments of the society. The expectations for the future are discussed along with security concerns. It is concluded that a major technological challenge being addressed is making information and computing power accessible anytime, anywhere and on any device. Understanding these principles’ and building thoughts for the future is what our Year 10s are working on.

Practice, Practice, and more Practice! This is the statement for Y11s to get geared up for the assessments. Trying to understand the format of exams for both the Theory and Practical papers, it is interesting to see the Y11s preparing for the IGCSE examination.

Development in this so-called digital-age is hinged on technological innovation and utilization hence it is imperative to think and ponder upon this question – Are we ready for the future with even more embedded ICT systems in all aspects in the global system?

When you adopt a growth mindset, you can grow and change through persistence and experience. With a fixed mindset, you can be easily overwhelmed with the future’s uncertainty, but the future belongs to those who can adopt a growth mindset and keep learning.

Our young minds at BCB are thinking deeply on this to lead the way and future proof themselves!
