It was wonderful to see so many parents in attendance at our "Meet the Librarian & Meet the Teacher" session last Tuesday. Please don’t worry if you were unable to attend these sessions, we will share the information with you this week via email.
Our library was bustling with parents on Tuesday afternoon for our annual ‘Meet the Librarian’ information sessions. Ms. Hull, our librarian, shared some reading resources such as EPIC, an online library that children can access out of school, as well as inviting parents to use the library for themselves.
Reading to children and children reading is crucial to their language development and to ensure they become hooked on books. 90% of new vocabulary is learned through reading books and research shows reading to your child every day can have a huge impact on their attainment in school. We know how important the development of the first language is, to ensure that additional languages also develop, therefore we encourage you to read in home languages as well as in English. Teachers read to the students every day in addition to texts being studied in class, daily Whole Class Reading and weekly library sessions.
‘Meet the Teacher’ sessions followed our library welcome and Phase Leaders Catherine Passmore (Y1/2), Molly Hill (Y3/4) and Craig Driver (Y5/6) welcomed parents into their phases with useful information about communication, events and Curriculum. Parents also had the opportunity to receive timetables and ask questions about life in the Primary School with their class teacher.
Please don’t worry if you were unable to attend these sessions, we will share the information with you this week via email.
It was wonderful to see so many parents in attendance and wish you and our students a fantastic year ahead!

As the academic year whirls by, the first term in primary school draws to a close, marking the end of a whirlwind of learning, growth, and new experiences.
As we move towards the end of term, our Primary exit points are always a great celebration of learning that has taken place over previous weeks and months.
At BIS, in addition to the excellent opportunities we are providing in the classroom, we enrich the students experiences and learning by taking them on day trips.
