Year 2 had a very exciting morning on Thursday this week. They were surprised with a tea party!
This was to support their work in Literacy on the well loved children’s book ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’ by Judith Kerr. Children have been learning about the story through a range of activities designed to develop their understanding of the structure, vocabulary and events. Later, they will develop their ideas and write their own stories based on the book.
The tea party was to help them develop their understanding of the nouns and adjectives used in the story as well as bringing the story to life!
They enjoyed yummy, crumbly biscuits, soft delicious buns, tangy lemon cake and sweet orange juice just like in the story. Then there was a knock on the door and, unbelievably, a very big, very stripy, very hungry Tiger was there! He came in and ate all the food until there was nothing left.
It was very exciting and really helped to develop their understanding of the story and the key vocabulary. Bringing stories to life and experiencing concepts first hand is a really powerful tool for young children when developing language and concepts needed for story writing.
We really enjoyed seeing the children’s excitement and we look forward to reading the stories they will create! Special thanks must go to Mr Clarke from our EAL team who helped us out with procuring a visiting tiger at this event.

As the academic year whirls by, the first term in primary school draws to a close, marking the end of a whirlwind of learning, growth, and new experiences.
As we move towards the end of term, our Primary exit points are always a great celebration of learning that has taken place over previous weeks and months.
At BIS, in addition to the excellent opportunities we are providing in the classroom, we enrich the students experiences and learning by taking them on day trips.
