Meet Hongmi an outstanding voice from BIS Hanoi Class of 2025

During her time at BIS Hanoi, she embraced every opportunity in the performing arts, from her first role in the 2023 Secondary Production to singing with the Senior Choir and performing at the Southeast Asia Performing Arts Festival.

Each experience nurtured her love for music and gave her the confidence to step onto bigger stages and explore her passions beyond the classroom. That’s why she encourages fellow students to embrace every chance to try new things and discover their passions.\

What's something you didn't know you could do before joining BIS? 

I didn't know that I can try so many different things in here. I participated in many performing arts experiences like secondary production of 2023 and senior choir and also the Southeast Asia Performing Arts Festival. It was so great to try those opportunities, and I could explore my interest with excitement and fun.

What is your fondest memory from all the performing arts events and activities you have participated in at school?

The best thing was secondary production 2023 because it was my first time performing as a cast in musical. I made many new friends in there as it was first thing that I did in BIS Hanoi and, I could sing dance and act together with great performers in here and I quite enjoyed it. 

What was your most exciting lesson and why?  

The most excited thing is what I'm doing right now. I'm practising for something called music presenting. It's basically presenting my performance to others. Yeah, I'm practising for my vocal performance, which I've never done for solo. And yeah, I think the great thing with IB is I can try those many things that I'm interested in. I can try whatever I want during the course. 

Tell us about your favourite CAS experience  

I participated in many creativity experiences, of course, because I'm a musician, but I also did like something other than just some stimulated to music. I did translation during parents evening and it was also a great experience because I'm interested in languages as well.

What at BIS Hanoi has helped you gain more confidence?

As I said, BIS made me very confident about myself because I tried many things and participated in many activities. I could be very sure about myself. I can do just many different things I can do. I can just try whatever I want. I can take risk and I can manage all of that. I can do that. So I'm just confident that I can do very well in the future as well.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to a student about becoming part of the BIS Hanoi community 

I just want to say that you don't need to worry about anything. You don't need to really worry about making new friends or getting used to new environment. I think the most important thing is just focus on what you like and what you want to do or study. And there are so many different opportunities in BIS Hanoi. Like if you participate in those activities, you can make new friends. You can be because you’ll naturally be a part of BIS Hanoi community and that's what I want to say.

What’s the next step in your learning journey?

You know, after the graduation, the very first thing will be going back to Korea and meet my friends and family members. And then I might go to university in the UK, which is really different environment compared to Hanoi.
