Year 10 IGCSE Geography Fieldwork The Geography Department firmly believe that learning outside of the classroom plays a fundamental role in our students building a deeper understanding and a stronger connection with the world around them.

The Geography Department firmly believe that learning outside of the classroom plays a fundamental role in our students building a deeper understanding and a stronger connection with the world around them, along with the challenges and possibilities that they may impact their lives and communities in the future.  Our recent IGCSE fieldwork day to in District 4 and District 7 provided this experience.

On Thursday 13th June, the teachers from the Geography department, along with teachers from the English and Science departments acting in a supporting role, had the pleasure of taking the Year 10 IGCSE geographers on a geographical fieldwork day to Districts 4 and 7 of HCMC. On this day packed with a lot of observations and walking, the students were able to collect huge amounts of land use, traffic and environmental quality data to help them with their IGCSE “Alternative to Coursework” paper, which they will be sitting next year. In addition to this, the students gained valuable contextual knowledge in relation to how people live in contrasting parts of their city. Many were visiting these districts for the first time as they are in a part of the city many students would not otherwise have a reason to go to.

The students worked incredibly hard over the course of the day, their conduct as they visibly represented the school in different parts of the city was outstanding. I would like to congratulate the students on their achievements on the day and I look forward to seeing what they produce with the data they collected.

I would like to thank the parents for supporting the department in running this trip, and the support of our brilliant staff from beyond the department who gave up their time to provide this opportunity for our IGCSE geographers.
