FOBISIA Advanced Orchestral and Choral Festival 2019 - fobisia-advanced-orchestral-and-choral-festival-2019
FOBISIA Advanced Orchestral and Choral Festival 2019 Over the weekend 19th-21st September, British International School Ho Chi Minh City hosted the FOBISIA Advanced Orchestral and Choral Festival 2019.

Over the weekend 19th-21st September, British International School Ho Chi Minh City hosted the FOBISIA Advanced Orchestral and Choral Festival 2019.

Over the course of 3 days, 170 musicians from 9 FOBISIA member schools in the region joined together to rehearse and perform an extremely challenging programme of music. We welcomed students and teachers from the following schools:

  • The British School of Beijing, Shuyi
  • British International School of Kuala Lumpur
  • Kellett School
  • Wellington College International School Shanghai
  • Alice Smith School, Kuala Lumpur
  • The British International School Shanghai, Puxi
  • British School Manila
  • British School Jakarta

We also welcomed Singaporean conductor Adrian Tan to work with our orchestral musicians and Gareth Groves as our choral director.

The students worked extremely hard over the weekend which culminated in an outstanding concert on Sunday afternoon showcasing music that they would never usually get the opportunity to perform.

Highlights of the concert included the fast and furious ‘Polotsvian Dances’ by Borodin at an incredibly fast tempo, Konagaya’s ‘Japanese Song’ played by the wind, brass and percussion players and the spirited ‘Zimbe’ by L’Estrange, featuring music from Africa. The concert ended with the choir and orchestra together performing Verdi’s ‘Triumphant March’ from his grand opera ‘Aida.’

Missed the concert? Don't worry, you can catch the full show here:
