Last Friday saw the Desford Colliery Band visiting BIS for the whole day to give a series of fantastic concerts across the whole school.
The band had travelled all the way from the UK to perform a series of concerts and workshops at international schools in Ho Chi Minh City. For BIS, the band began by performing at the EY&I campus, giving our youngest children the opportunity to experience hearing a huge range of brass instruments not commonly found in Vietnam. The musicians were even gracious enough to allow our EYFS and Infant children an opportunity to try out their instruments! During the afternoon, the band performed a longer concert for some of our junior and secondary students, exposing them to the particular timbre and warm sound which can only come from a brass band. The day was rounded off in spectacular fashion when the band performed a fantastic concert to parents, also featuring our BIS Community and KS3 Choirs.
This was a fantastic event for all involved and we hope it has inspired a plethora of future brass players at BIS HCMC. If your child is interested in learning a brass instrument at school please contact one of our Instrumental Leaders: Mr Rhys (Primary) Rhys.Barker@bisvietnam.com or Ms Jacombs (Secondary) Keziah.Jacombs@bisvietnam.com

Year 9 is more than the final chapter of Key Stage 3 (KS3) of the English National Curriculum; it’s a pivotal year of transformation. It’s the point where students begin to personalise their learning to a much greater extent, preparing to enter the academic rigour of the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) programme.
At BIS HCMC, sport is more than just a game. It’s a vital part of a well-rounded education. Through dynamic fixtures, inter school competitions and inclusive sport opportunities, our students are encouraged to challenge themselves, work collaboratively and take pride in representing their school.
At BIS HCMC, our story is one of connection, continuity, and care — a place where learning begins with curiosity and ends with confident, compassionate graduates ready to shape the world. Earlier this year, we witnessed a moving reminder of this journey, as eighteen members of our Year 13 Class of 2025 returned to the place where it all began: Early Years Foundation Stages.
