Global Campus Visual Arts Competition 2021 Each year BIS HCMC joins other students from across NAE schools in the Visual Arts competition. Each school is able to submit one entry for each of four age categories: Under 8s, 8-11, 11-14, and 14+, and these are fiercely contested places.

Each year BIS HCMC joins other students from across NAE schools in the Visual Arts competition. Each school is able to submit one entry for each of four age categories: Under 8s, 8-11, 11-14, and 14+, and these are fiercely contested places. Our students have once again risen to the challenge and produced some outstanding pieces of artwork along the theme of Climate Action.

They were tasked with choosing an issue that is important to them and representing their feelings on the issue through a medium of their choice. We have had a range of entries from traditional paintings through to interactive sculptures, and we have been so impressed with the standard. For every age range we have highly commended pieces, year group winners, and one overall winner to go to the global competition. We are so proud of all of the children who have taken part this year.

“Year 2 and Foundation Stage children have been getting creative and thinking about climate change as part of the NAE Visual Arts Competition. Children really thought about the causes and effects of climate change and how they could represent this as a piece of artwork. We were extremely impressed by the standard of entries and choosing winners was a very difficult task. Ms Lauren and Ms Jules looked at all the work and selected some outstanding pieces across the two year groups. We chose Sonali from F3H as the F3 winner and Vi Khang in 2C who was the overall winner at EY&I. Vi Khang’s piece has been entered into the Global competition and will be judged alongside winners from schools across the world. Well done to everyone who entered and thank you for all your beautiful work.”

“The response on the Junior Campus to the NAE Visual Arts Competition has been incredible and demonstrated just how talented and thoughtful our students are. What impressed most is the amount of time, effort and care that the children put into their artwork. Accompanying written explanations showed how passionately they feel about climate change and their desire to protect the environment. With so much technical skill and originality on show, judging was extremely difficult. Ms Eileen, Ms Erica and Mr Chris had the challenging task of selecting just one winner from each year group out of the many entries that we received. Well done to: Jane Park (3B), Daniel (4H), Ju Won (5I) and Aurora (6N).  Special congratulations go to Ju Won who was chosen as the overall winner in the 8-11 age group.

However, we would like to thank all of the children for doing a fantastic job and will ensure that their work is celebrated within school. Well done, everyone!”

“This year’s challenge was for students to create a compelling work of Art, in a medium of their choice, to illustrate their thoughts on Climate Change. Whether it be a particular issue associated with climate change or a vision of a hopeful future, this was an opportunity for students to raise their voices on another global pandemic via art. The competition encourages students to use their creativity and explore a range of techniques in their work. Our Year 7-9 students responded thoughtfully to this challenge, commenting on the impact of global warming, the devastation caused by forest fires, and the consequences of ocean plastic pollution on our diet. Some of the pieces were inspired by the concept of carbon footprints and others commented on the time that we have to take action on this important issue. In the end, it was Clara Hwang (Y9) who was entered for the 11-14 Global Competition, and Serena Lee (Y9) for the 14-18 category. We look forward to seeing their work published. Well done to everyone who took part!”
