Cambridge Learners Awards - Cambridge Learners Awards 2025
Celebrating Excellence in IGCSEs

Our students have once again achieved outstanding results in the outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards. In the June 2025 examination series 12 students earned 15 awards, including 7 Top in the World and 6 Top in Vietnam awards. One student also achieved Best across 8 Subjects - First place in Vietnam, an exceptional accomplishment that reflects remarkable academic breadth. Another student demonstrated an incredible accomplishment in a less studied subject, receiving a High Achievement award.

These awards are presented by Cambridge International Education to honor students who achieve exceptional results in Cambridge IGCSE and Cambridge Advanced examinations. They celebrate academic excellence on a global scale, recognising learners who have demonstrated outstanding performance in their subjects. Categories include:

  • Top in the World: Awarded to students achieving the highest marks globally in a single subject.

  • Top in Country: Recognises the highest achievers in specific countries.

  • Best Across: Honors students who have the highest cumulative scores across multiple subjects.

  • High Achievement: Acknowledges outstanding performance in less widely studied subjects

For 12 students to receive 15 of these awards in one year is remarkable and is an extraordinary reflection of their talent, discipline, and the strong academic culture they’ve grown within amongst our BIS community.

Mr Stephen Kay, Head of Secondary, shared, “We are incredibly proud of our students for achieving 15 Cambridge High Achievement Awards in the May/June 2025 examination series. These awards reflect not only their hard work and perseverance but also the dedication of our teachers and the supportive environment of our entire school community. To see our students excel at this level and gain recognition on a global stage is truly inspiring. Congratulations to every award recipient—you've set a remarkable standard for academic excellence.”

Moving on to a Diverse and Balanced IBDP Curriculum

As our Sixth Form students settle into their new blue shirts and near the end of their first term, they are embracing the breadth and challenge of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). This globally respected curriculum offers an exceptional range of subjects, enabling students to tailor their learning to their interests and future goals. From rigorous sciences such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, and Sports, Exercise and Health Science, to Mathematics pathways in Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation, the programme ensures academic depth. Students also explore languages including English, Spanish, Chinese, and French, alongside global perspectives in Economics, Business Management, and History. Creative expression thrives through Visual Arts, while Environmental Systems and Societies provide an interdisciplinary lens on sustainability. This balanced curriculum reflects the IB’s mission to develop well-rounded learners prepared for success in an ever-changing world.

Laying Foundations for the Future

When you look at the list of awards, one theme stands out. STEAM is thriving at BIS HCMC. With 11 out of 15 awards in subjects like Mathematics, Physics, Biology and Information and Communication Technology, our students are stepping boldly toward careers shaping the future. Strong foundations in these subjects prepare learners for pathways in engineering, biomedical sciences, computer science and other data-driven fields where innovation is moving fast.

At the same time, achievements in languages and the creative arts highlight the value we place on a well-rounded education. Students who excel in Drama, English and Mandarin bring creativity, communication and cultural awareness to their learning, skills that complement technical ability and support success in modern interdisciplinary careers.

And of course, their excellence stretches far beyond the classroom as athletes, leaders, performers and ambassadors. It’s this balance of analytical strength, creativity and character that makes them future-ready learners in every sense.

Well-Rounded Students

Academic excellence is only one part of the story. Many of our award recipients are also actively involved in leadership, sport, community service and extracurricular life.

Hugo, now in Year 12, stands out for his exceptional academic range. Alongside Top in Vietnam for Chemistry, he achieved the highest cumulative score across 8 IGCSE subjects in Vietnam. This year, he was selected to attend the Nord Anglia Education, MIT Summit in Boston, reflecting his talent in STEAM, and he is now serving as a prefect. Beyond academics, Hugo recently won the U19 cross country and placed 4th Male overall in the Ironman Sprint Triathlon (16–24 age category) in Phu Quoc.

He’s not alone in balancing excellence. Amaury is an avid tennis player, and Amelia represents student voice as a BIS Sports Media ambassador, also both prefects. These learners reflect the BIS HCMC spirit, combining high academic achievement with confidence, creativity, and commitment across school life.

Early Years and Secondary Joiners

Something that really stands out this year is when our award recipients began their journey at BIS HCMC. Five students, including three Top in the World awardees, joined us all the way back inEarly Years Foundation Stageat just two and three years old. They built their earliest foundations here and have grown with us for well over a decade.

The other seven students joined later in Secondary, with many arriving in Year 9 or Year 10 as they began their IGCSE pathway. Their success is a powerful reminder that whether a child starts in Early Years or enters in Year 9, they’ll have the chance to build the foundations they need for success.

Start Early to Lay the Strongest Foundations

From the age of two, BIS HCMC students develop confidence, curiosity and communication in an environment built for early learning. Many of our high-achieving students began their journey with us here, where strong relationships, exploration and play spark a lifelong love of learning.

With Primary places often filling quickly, enrolling early is an ideal way to secure a place at BIS HCMC and give your child the smoothest start.

Join in Year 9 to Begin the IGCSE–IBDP Pathway with Confidence

Year 9 is a particularly powerful entry point, giving students time to settle in and develop strong academic habits that prepare them for the IGCSEs, which begin in Year 10.

We believe the IGCSE–IBDP pathway plays a major role in our students’ success. The IGCSE isn’t just a stepping stone; it prepares them to think, study and perform at the level the IB requires.

Why this route works so well:

  • Students personalise early, while still grounded in core subjects

  • They trial subjects, explore interests and discover what fits them best before making bigger IBDP subject choices

  • They build genuine depth in chosen specialisms early, giving them a head start in the Diploma Programme

  • The IGCSE is a rigorous two-year programme, ending in formal examinations

  • They practise performing under exam conditions, learn techniques to manage pressure, and understand how assessment works

  • They develop study, revision and organisation strategies that they carry with them into Year 12

  • They earn two globally recognised qualifications that universities value worldwide

This academic foundation pays off. By the time students enter the IB Diploma, they know how they learn best, how to revise, how to manage coursework, and how to stay composed through assessments. It’s no coincidence that 32% of our Class of 2025 are now studying at top 30 universities, including Oxford, Cambridge, Stanford, Imperial, UCL and NUS.

Starting in Year 9 gives students the space to grow, to discover what excites them, and to step into the IGCSEs with confidence rather than pressure.
