See it! Say it! Stop it!

This week saw the launch of our “See it! Say it! Stop it!” campaign in Primary school, which will roll out to Secondary over the coming weeks.

 The message for children is that if there is anything that they are worried about they should tell a trusted adult and then we can work together to deal with the issue.

“Keeping safe and happy” was the focus of Monday’s Primary Assembly.  The children had lots of ideas to share about what the school already does to keep them safe – having rules, fire and lock down drills, supervision on the playground and so on.  They shared the kinds of emotions they have when they are feeling unsafe – stressed, worried, unhappy, angry, scared.  We explained some of the things which might make them feel unsafe – Bullying, (when children are persistently and deliberately unkind to an individual), and Abuse, (when an adult deliberately hurts a child’s body or feelings).  The children then went back to class to talk in more detail with their teachers about the issues raised.

Posters have gone up around the school to remind children of the slogan and of some of the adults they can choose to talk to.  My name is Mrs Vincent and Iam the Designated Safeguarding Lead for the school and Mrs Warmington is the Deputy DSL and we are always available to listen to children who have concerns.  However, the children can speak to any adult that they trust and feel comfortable with.

We are keenly aware of the trust you place in us to keep your children safe.  We have a Safeguarding Policy (available on the School Website in English, Korean and Slovak) and a child-friendly version of the policy which is shared with children. Our thorough Safeguarding procedures extend from recruitment practices, to risk assessments for trips and police checking of all adults who work in our school. Safeguarding is embedded in our ongoing teacher training, in our curriculum and in our pastoral system.
