Students in Year 8 are being ambitious in their use of Minecraft in History this month to extend their understanding of the Slavery and Abolition topic they have been studying.

Using a world created by the University of Glasgow, the St Lauretia Project, they are exploring a slave market, port and plantations and then working together in BISB's Minecraft Education platform to create their own representations of the experience of enslaved people.

Viktoria R. and Sophia H. created a video to show the early construction phase of their slave ship. They found it a brilliant experience as they had to problem solve in real time as well as coordinate their build whilst working 'virtually' together.

Having also used Minecraft last term to replicate the ships William of Normandy used to invade England, Y7 are also expanding their skills by creating models of Motte and Bailey and Square Keep castles, used by the Normans to control England after the Saxon defeat. We look forward to sharing their successes with you later.
