This week, the Primary section of BISB has been going full-STEAM ahead with the first of our MIT challenges! This year’s challenges, set specifically for Nord Anglia students by experts at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, are all about Extreme Weather.

Who hasn’t been thrilled by loud rumbles of thunder and the sight of lightning strikes during a storm? Or been awed by the effects of a snowstorm? We have been hoping to make the most of our students’ enthusiasm for extreme weather events and already some super learning has taken place!

Our first Challenge, entitled “Sea Sleuth” is being undertaken by children in Willows, and Years 2-6 in Primary. The students have had a great time this week being real detectives, finding out about the water cycle and, in the case of our older students, the impact of the oceans on extreme weather. Their task, however, has been to convey their findings in interesting, informative and creative ways. Maybe a dance? Perhaps a video of a scientific investigation? Or a poster, a board game or a piece of music? STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) activities encourage students to develop different curriculum skills and apply them together and the students at BISB are all demonstrating this perfectly when undertaking this task.

On Tuesday 16th November, the students will be presenting their great work to each other – we’re excited about what we will see!
