Year 5/6 put on their dancing shoes for the exit point for their unit of work "Dance through the Decades," linked to their IPC topic, The 20th Century. Each week the children explored a genre of music and the dance moves from a decade. They created their own 60s and 70s inspired dances and learned the dances to popular songs from the 80s and 90s. They learned about cultural changes in each decade and why music became more varied and widely available. They learned about how MTV and other TV channels changed the way we engage with music and dance and the impact this had on the development of YouTube. The topic ended with a "Decades Dance Party" where children came to school in outfits inspired by a decade and danced the morning away! They had such fun (and found out that dancing is quite exhausting!). Some favorites included 70s disco and 90s pop music!
