Childhood friends and Year 4 classmates, Anoushka and Gio recently put their athleticism to the test when they competed in Cori’s Kids Triathlon in Oakbrook, Illinois. This friendly competition promotes exercise in a fun and energetic way with competitive events in swimming, biking and running. Anoushka placed 8th out of 29 competitors in her division. Gio placed 15 out of 30 competitors in his division. They both felt the event had its challenges, but they were happy and proud to be a part of it. While Anoushka thought the running event was the most difficult, Gio found the biking to be quite the challenge. In the end, they both agreed on two key lessons – pace yourself and training is essential!
Outside of school, they both enjoy engaging in physical activities. Anoushka is part of the Wolfpacks swim team out of University of Illinois – Chicago campus, which entails practices four times per week. Gio is passionate about tennis and also enjoys basketball, track and swimming.
When asked what’s next, they unanimously agreed it would be an exciting challenge to take on a decathlon down the road. But for the time being, they’ll focus on wrapping up Year 4 and prepping for another triathlon slated for August!
Year 5 Teacher and Social Impact & Global Campus Leader, Carlie Ennis shares thoughts on empowering children in elementary school to have a voice, and the profound impact it has on their growth and development.
