Open Days
As you walk through the primary school you are immediately struck by the extraordinary potential of the children. At BISS Puxi, our British teachers work with students and parents to create truly personalised learning plans, helping each student find their passion and channel their seemingly limitless energy into being the best that they can be.
Cédric clearly has a passion for the Chinese culture and language. He is taking every opportunity to build up his understanding and also develop confidence by performing for outside audiences.
Cédric’s effervescent personality allows him not only to enjoy and understand what he learns, but also to share it. He clearly wants to share his passion for Chinese culture – with everybody. He explores it with his teachers and friends at school, explains it to his parents and even to unsuspecting taxi drivers. It’s an opportunity to share and it’s a great way to practise his Chinese!

When I asked Cédric why he enjoyed Chinese he said that its fun and that he loved the songs. The wonder of culture, literature and the arts is that it gives us an opportunity to take our minds to a different place and to enjoy a moment that brings us joy, excitement or even peace.
The group will be performing ‘The Ode for a Goose’ The BISS Puxi Temple Fair on January 26th. The BISS Puxi community will be celebrating the Chinese New Year of the Pig with a host of Chinese culture related activities for everyone to enjoy. I think Cédric would be happy if I shared ‘The Ode to a Goose’ with you here. It’s a wonderful short ancient poem that can be enjoyed by both young and old.
‘The Ode to a Goose’
鹅、鹅、鹅,
(é é é)
曲项向天歌。
(qū xiàng xiàng tiān gē)
白毛浮绿水,
(bái máo fú lǜ shuǐ)
红掌拨清波
(hóng zhǎng bō qīng bō)
English Translation:
Goose, goose, goose,
You bend your neck towards the sky and sing.
Your white feathers float on the emerald water,
Your red feet push the clear waves.
Thank you to all our parents who completed the recent survey. As always, your feedback is vital in the decisions we make moving forward, and to receive so many fantastic comments shows just how engaged we are as an international community.
This year’s British Science Week at BISS was a resounding success, filled with student-led activities that brought science to life in the most engaging and interactive ways. Under the theme of ‘Change’ and ‘Adaptation’, students explored how science evolves to solve global challenges by taking part in a variety of hands-on experiments, competitive quizzes, and thought-provoking discussions.
School trips are always an exciting opportunity for young minds to expand their horizons beyond the classroom, and our Year 5 students recently embarked on an unforgettable journey to the Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall. This excursion provided an immersive learning experience about the past, present and future of Shanghai while introducing students to the concept of sustainable urban development.
