Year 9 Mandarin Trip to The Shanghai Film Studio

On Friday 20 October, the Year 9 Mandarin classes visited the Shanghai Film Studio together, which is situated in Shanghai's Songjiang District. During the visit, the students explored fully reconstructed scenic areas such as "Southern Streets" and realistic settings such as "1930s Nanjing Road" and "Shanghai Lane Residences", which provide ideal locations for film and television production. Over 30 films and several hundred episodes of television series have been filmed at this site.

This experience provided the Year 9 students with a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the vibrant charm of old Shanghai. These diverse scenes, captured through the unique artistic techniques of film, authentically and artistically depict the historical and cultural landscape of Shanghai. This visit allowed the students to deepen their understanding and familiarity of the development and evolution of Shanghai.

Walking along the streets felt like travelling back to the 1930s in the old Shanghai Concession era. When you see the old posters and billboards scattered around, and hear the clattering sound of green trams on the tracks, the former hustle and bustle of the Shanghai Bund slowly comes to life before your eyes.
Here is what some of the students had to say...

"Not only are there vibrant Chinese alleyways with a nostalgic atmosphere, but also European-style buildings that have stood the test of time. On both sides of the streets, you can find vintage clothing stores, century-old chocolate shops, traditional apothecaries, and tea houses. In this place, it's as if every corner has a captivating story. Come and experience the charm of old Shanghai in the Republic of China era!"

"In my opinion, this place was an awesome experience. We saw many different Chinese buildings and monuments, which educated us about China. I had a fantastic time seeing many eye-catching things related to China. Besides sightseeing, the train ride was also a highlight. It gave us a comprehensive tour of the place and showcased numerous amazing sights. I highly recommend that people visit this place for both fun and education. It is an amazing destination."

Additionally, the students noticed that some local elementary school students were visiting the site, and they warmly greeted them in Chinese. All the students expressed that this was a very enjoyable and unforgettable Chinese trip. Integration of knowledge and action, this is the philosophy our school has always upheld.
