Celebrating our Outstanding Athletes: The KS4 and KS5 BISS Lions Sports Awards

Celebrating our Outstanding Athletes: The KS4 and KS5 BISS Lions Sports Awards - Celebrating our Outstanding Athletes at the Sports Awards

We are delighted to report on an exhilarating event that took place on Monday 8 April: the KS4 and KS5 BISS Lions Sports Awards. Organised by Year 12 students, the event was broadcasted as a live podcast. The occasion served to honour the graduating class of 2024, recognising their outstanding achievements as student athletes and celebrating the overall performance of teams representing the BISS Lions athletics programmes in the SISAC and ACAMIS leagues.

Director of Sport, Wayne Grant, and the Head of Elite Performance, Marlon Devonish, engaged the audience in a discussion on deliberate practice and the attributes required for success in athletics, while emphasising the importance of academic commitment. Our Principal, Andrew Lancaster, took the stage as well, commending the students for their world-class commitment, both on and off the sports field. Their dedication truly embodies our school motto, ‘Create Your Future’, as they assume leadership roles that will serve them well in their growth and future beyond BISS.

Throughout the event, we had the privilege of hearing compelling accounts from our students, as they recounted their seasons and shared their sentiments about what it means to be part of the BISS Lions. These stories highlighted the dedication, perseverance and passion that drive our exceptional young athletes.

The Sports Awards ceremony provided a platform for our graduating class of 2024 to reflect on their time as BISS Lions. It was heartening to witness their gratitude towards their coaches, teammates, and support staff who have played pivotal roles in their sporting journeys. These student athletes have exemplified the spirit of teamwork, sportsmanship and personal growth that the BISS Lions athletics programmes strive to instil.

Congratulations to all the medal recipients, and a special thank you to mic A and mic B, Sebastian Hilles Moya and Samuel Mikhail, for their exceptional mastery as masters of ceremony. Stay tuned for their upcoming podcast! We also express our appreciation to Matthew Yick for coordinating the event's video and sound, and to Yoonsoo Min for skilfully managing the video switches. Together, they contributed to the tremendous success of the awards ceremony.

Go Lions! Let us continue to support and inspire one another as we build upon the legacy of BISS Lions athletics.
