UPPER KEY STAGE 2 CURRICULUM

In Years 5 and 6, the Upper Key Stage 2 curriculum builds on the knowledge, skills and understanding established in Lower Key Stage 2. Key subject areas include literacy, numeracy, science, ICT, PSHCE and weekly sessions of PE and performing arts. We have a theme-based approach to history, geography, art and Design & Technology to stimulate cross-curricular thinking.

As a leading school in an international community, BSB Sanlitun ensures the curriculum accounts for our local and global culture and environment. Productions, residentials, excursions and theme days are some of the rewarding ways students get to explore the world.

GROWING INTO ASPIRING LEADERS

As the seniors at BSB Sanlitun, our Upper Key Stage 2 students enjoy taking on roles like head boy and girl, house captains, sports captains, student council representatives and playground leaders. They are actively involved in projects that empower them to effect real, long-lasting change in their local community.
For example, through our Challenge-Based Learning initiative students are challenged to become enterprising leaders by developing a big idea linked to a global issue and guiding their own learning toward a measurable outcome.
As our students mature socially and emotionally, we provide them with opportunities for collaborative working and risk-taking. We encourage an open mind as we support them both socially and academically.

MATURING INTO GLOBALLY AWARE CITIZENS

Global awareness is a strong focus in Upper Key Stage 2. Our Be Ambitious philosophy sees students make the most of cutting-edge technologies to foster their creativity, collaboration and communication skills. We ask students to extend and challenge their learning, to analyse and reflect on their achievements and celebrate success. Through the Nord Anglia Global Classroom, students develop these skills and share their knowledge with their peers around the world.

The high level of teaching and the pastoral guidance in Upper Key Stage 2 cultivates positive development in our students and encourages them to grow into independent and progressive learners. Our educators draw on different curriculum experiences, knowledge and expertise to ensure every lesson meets the needs of all our students.

To ensure a smooth move into secondary education, BSB Sanlitun has forged strong links with our sister school in Shunyi. This ensures students feel supported as they move into the next phase of their learning. Tours, parent information sessions and transition days give students an opportunity to experience their future school.

In Upper Key Stage 2, our students gain the skills they’ll need to become inspirational role models to others, and future leaders in their chosen field. We ensure they have the necessary knowledge to achieve their goals and develop into confident global learners.
