A WARM WELCOME AWAITS YOUR CHILD

The British School of Beijing, Sanlitun is proud to be an academically inclusive school, which is open to students aged from 1 to 11 (Early Years and Primary). We have lots of experience when it comes to welcoming students from around the world, including those joining us from a variety of different education systems.

To meet BSB Sanlitun’s entry requirements, we may ask for reports and academic transcripts from your child’s previous school, as well as personal recommendations.

Students joining us in Year 3 or above will also sit English and academic assessments. These are not part of our entry process (and children don’t need to pass the tests); instead, they are designed to give our teachers a better understanding of your child so they’re full prepared for their arrival.

We strive to cater for all children at BSB Sanlitun. Please let our admissions team know if your child has any additional educational needs when you start the application process.

LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY AND SUPPORT PROGRAMMES

We teach in English at our international school in Beijing, but if English isn’t your family’s first language, we have an excellent English as an Additional Language (EAL) programme. This is designed for children who arrive at BSB Sanlitun with little or no English. Through our programme’s effectiveness – and full immersion in our English-speaking environment – our children pick up the language incredibly quickly!

Mandarin Chinese is the most widely spoken language in the world, and we provide our children, from beginners to native speakers, with plenty of opportunities to learn the language. We evaluate students when they join us, before placing them in one of our ability classes. Existing pupils are streamed according to previous performance and academic records.

We also offer a German programme for native language speakers in Years 1-6. This is an optional programme whereby students receive three hours of small group tuition in German each week.
