What a great start to the new term Year 1 have had. We have started our topic of Polar Bears which the children have loved and have been learning more and more about!
They started off by learning about what they eat, what they can do and what they have. Using these facts they learnt, they then made their own fact file about Polar Bears. We have also been talking about the ice melting due to climate change and the children thought of ways in which they could help save the Polar Bears environment. They have also been very busy making their own dioramas of an Artic scene. Using different materials, paint or paper, they have designed the inside and then added extra parts for the ice, mountains or water. The children made their own playdough polar bears to put into their scene and presented them to their friends, describing what they had made.
We have just started our story of The Lonely Polar Bear, where we will make our own comic strips and the children will be introduced to onomatopoeias. We are looking forward to seeing the comic strips develop!
