We sat down with the newly selected Head Students for 2025/26 to find out more about why they put themselves forward for the roles, how they feel about being selected, their plans for the future, and the challenges they may face in their new and important positions.

Students were invited to apply for the roles and had to give a 2-minute speech to all Year 3 to 6 students and teachers! If that wasn’t nerve-wracking enough, they each had an interview with Ms. Fedorowicz and Ms. Barnard. All students who applied showed great determination and commitment to the process.

Emily applied for the role as she “thought it would be a good opportunity to guide younger students and help support them with their plans for the future,” with Grace – wanting “to be able to let all students express their thoughts and make changes at school to make sure everyone has a good life at BSB Sanlitun.”

When asked how they felt after their names were announced, both girls showed great humility and compassion – as they were more concerned for those who were not selected – which reinforces one of the many reasons why they were chosen!

Throughout the interview, the girls supported and encouraged each other to share their thoughts and opinions, demonstrating why they were selected as a pair – as they both have different skill sets that complement each other - exclaiming “we will collaborate well and be unstoppable!”

Returning in August, they plan to “meet with the Student Council and listen to their ideas.”Grace hopes to “make all new students feel welcome” and Emily is looking forward to “helping younger students and making new friends”.

High on their agenda? “Widening the offering at lunch – with more options for vegans, vegetarians and expanding the international food choices, as well as continuing to make the playground a friendly space for all students to enjoy.”

This is a big, important role – which will come with some challenges. For Grace, “I want to make sure all of the students are included all of the time” and for Emily, “I want to make sure everyone agrees with everything we do” - but both were realistic that you cannot please everyone all of the time and as long as “we all help each other and compromise” great things can be achieved.

In short, and to quote the Head Students – they will undeniably be “Unstoppable”,and we cannot wait to welcome them back to school in August and see them in action.

Of course, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to our graduating Head Students, Joanne and Kofi – who did a stirling job representing and supporting their peers throughout 2024-25. We wish them both well as they move on to their secondary schools – we know you will continue to make a big impact wherever you go!

“We are delighted that Emily and Grace will take on the role of Head Students next year.  They are both excellent role models for others in school and are keen to use student voice to bring positive changes.  I look forward to them taking on the new roles and seeing the positive impact they will undoubtedly have.” - Ms. Prabhu (Principal)

"We were truly impressed by the high calibre of applicants - some of the speeches were exceptional, making the final decision incredibly difficult. However, we are confident that we have selected a strong and inspiring team in Emily and Grace.

Emily impressed us with her quiet confidence, which we believe will naturally earn the trust of her peers. She expressed her ideas with thoughtfulness and maturity, reflecting a deep sense of responsibility. Grace was articulate, energetic, and passionate about fostering unity across the school, particularly in building connections between younger and older students. She shared excellent insights into student life at BSB and brought a fresh perspective to the role."- Ms. Fedorowicz (Head of School)

"As the Year Group Leader, I have had the privilege of watching both Emily and Grace grow into remarkable individuals this year. Their commitment to guiding their peers and their vision for an inclusive school environment will undoubtedly lead to great achievements in their new roles. I am excited to see how they will inspire others and make a lasting impact at BSB Sanlitun."- Mr. O’Leary (Year Group Leader – Year 5)
