This week in EAL, our classrooms have been buzzing with energy, enthusiasm, and very importantly with confidence! Across all year groups, students have been stepping out of their comfort zones, using their voices, and showing just how much their speaking skills are growing. We are so proud of their courage and progress.
YEAR 4: STORYTELLING STARS!
Today in EAL, our Year 4 students became storytellers. Using a familiar story from our Super Minds book, they first practised retelling in pairs, supporting each other with ideas and language. Then came the big moment, presenting in pairs to the class.
Every group did a fantastic job, speaking clearly and with increasing fluency. It was wonderful to see their confidence shine as they brought the stories to life. The classroom was filled with expressive voices, teamwork, and lots of smiles!

YEAR 3: CURIOUS INTERVIEWERS!
Our Year 3 students took on the role of researchers today. They interviewed their classmates about their reading habits, carefully recording answers and then discussing their findings together.
To finish, they worked in small groups on reading and grammar challenges linked to the topic. Throughout the lesson, students practised a wide range of skills: reading, speaking, listening, writing, turn-taking, teamwork, and problem-solving.
It was especially exciting to see students confidently asking questions and sharing ideas, just like real investigators!

YEAR 2: TALKING ABOUT YESTERDAY!
In Year 2, we focused on speaking about past activities. Students talked about what they did yesterday, played fun games to build vocabulary and then interviewed their classmates.
The highlight of the lesson was when each student presented what they had learned about a partner to the group. They all did an amazing job speaking in front of others which is such a big step in building confidence.

WHY CONFIDENCE MATTERS
Learning an additional language is not just about vocabulary and grammar. It’s about having the confidence to use it. When students feel motivated and safe to take risks, they are much more willing to speak, make mistakes, and try again.
This week showed us that confidence is growing across all year groups. With encouragement, practice, and a supportive environment, our students are becoming more independent, expressive, and willing communicators every day.
