A Flying Start to PE!

It feels like only yesterday that we welcomed everyone back to school, but somehow we are already five weeks into Term 1! It has been wonderful to see the students return with so much energy and enthusiasm. As a teacher, it is always amazing to see just how much children can grow over a short summer holiday – many of them seem to have come back noticeably taller!
It has certainly been a busy start to the year in PE, with students across the school getting active, developing new skills and, most importantly, having lots of fun along the way.
RECEPTION - MOVING AND EXPLORING
We have had a lovely time welcoming all of our Reception students to PE this year. Mr Maggs and I have spent the first five weeks getting to know the children through lots of fun games and activities designed to get everyone moving and enjoying PE.
Our focus has been on exploring the different ways we can move our bodies, while also beginning to develop important skills such as balance, coordination, control and spatial awareness. The children have been learning to look around, find space and move safely alongside others, and it has been wonderful to see their confidence growing each week.

KS1 - MOVING LEARNING, AND HAVING FUN!
In Key Stage 1, we have started the year by developing our locomotor skills. Students have been practising running, jumping, hopping, balancing, side-stepping and dodging, with lots of games and challenges along the way.
Our focus has not only been on performing these movements, but also on improving control, coordination and technique. It has been fantastic to see the students becoming more confident in their movement with each lesson.

KS2 -FOOTBALL, FRISBEE AND TEAMWORK
In Key Stage 2, we have kicked off the year with Football and Ultimate Frisbee, while also preparing students for some of our upcoming JISAC sporting events against other schools in Beijing.
For our Year 3 students, this has been their first experience of Ultimate Frisbee at BSB, and they have taken to it brilliantly, quickly developing their throwing and catching skills and beginning to understand the rules of the game.

Year 4 have been building on what they learnt last year, developing their understanding of the games and improving their individual skills in both football and frisbee. Meanwhile, our Year 5 and 6 students have progressed further by looking at the importance of teamwork, communication and strategy, alongside continuing to develop their individual skills.

PLENTY MORE TO COME!
And we are only just getting started! We still have a long and exciting year of PE ahead of us. Swimming begins after the Golden Week holiday, alongside a busy calendar of JISAC sporting events, Sports Day, and the Nord Anglia Shanghai Sports Festival for our Year 5 and 6 students.
There is plenty to look forward to, and we can't wait to see what our students achieve throughout the year.
The fun in PE never stops!
