Founded by siblings Sasha and Zac in 2019, BSKL for Malayan Tigers returned this year with its third major conservation campaign, rallying the school community to raise awareness and funds for the critically endangered Malayan tiger.
Led by the 2026 Tiger Team, comprising Sasha, Zac, Ruby, Pranika, Anna, Leonard, Max, Mirielle, Thomas, Yushin, Shanaya, Zi-En, Layan, Grace, and Shivika, the campaign focused on educating the community about the urgent threats facing the fewer than 150 Malayan tigers remaining in the wild today. Through student assemblies, talks by WWF, tiger-themed competitions, social media campaigns, and multilingual awareness posters displayed across campus, the team delivered a clear and powerful message: defend the roar before it is too late.
To support the cause, the students launched a series of fundraising initiatives throughout the campaign. Central to these efforts was a newly developed online store featuring exclusive BSKL for Malayan Tigers merchandise. The response from the BSKL community was overwhelming, with almost all products selling out.
The campaign gained further momentum during Earth Week celebrations from 30 March to 2 April, when the school community came together through a range of tiger-themed activities held both inside and outside the classroom. A special exhibition by Jabatan Perhilitan provided students and families with valuable insight into Malaysia’s wildlife conservation efforts, while the Pak Belang Market saw students, parents, staff, and external vendors unite to raise funds through food and merchandise sales. Once again, the community’s support resulted in nearly every item being sold.
One of the standout moments of the week was the Students vs Staff Basketball Match, which drew enthusiastic participation and generated significant funds through ticket sales, adding to the excitement and spirit of the campaign.
The campaign’s defining moment came during BSKL’s third annual Tiger Day on 30 March, when students and staff arrived on campus dressed in the campaign’s signature black and orange shirts. Across the school, the striking display symbolised a united commitment to protecting Malaysia’s national animal.
At the outset of the campaign, the Tiger Team set an ambitious goal to surpass the funds raised during previous years. Supported by the wider BSKL community and well-wishers around the world, the students achieved exactly that, raising RM102,800 this year alone. This brings the total amount raised by BSKL for Malayan Tigers since its inception to more than RM240,000.
Funds raised from the 2026 campaign will be presented to Jabatan Perhilitan, the Department of Wildlife and National Parks of Peninsular Malaysia, and WWF at a forthcoming event.
What began as a primary school project on endangered animals has since grown into a school-wide movement that continues to unite students, staff, and parents behind a common purpose. The campaign stands as a powerful example of how student leadership, community action, and shared responsibility can create meaningful impact beyond the classroom.
BSKL for Malayan Tigers extended its gratitude to every member of the community who contributed their time, effort, and generosity throughout the campaign. Special thanks were also given to Mrs Stringer for her mentorship since 2019 and to Mrs Humphrey for her support throughout this year’s initiatives.
While this year’s campaign may have concluded, the mission continues. The fight to save the Malayan tiger from extinction is far from over, and BSKL for Malayan Tigers remains committed to defending the roar for years to come.
